Director of Strategic Programmes

Through the appointment of a Strategic Programme Director (SPD), we have been given an opportunity to bring a step change in our mission and ministry across the Diocese of Coventry.  With a history of innovative missional practice and a dedicated team of lay and ordained leaders across our diverse geographical area (Warwickshire, Coventry and part of Solihull), we are looking to appoint a strategic thinker who is solutions focused with experience in bringing impactful change. The SPD will join us at an exciting time in the strategic development of the Diocese of Coventry as our new diocesan bishop takes up her responsibilities with a vision to see all churches flourish. A highly consultative approach will be needed as we look ahead to the beginning of this new season.

The Strategic Programme Director will be responsible for contributing to and supporting the Bishop’s Senior Staff Team and key lay and ordained leaders in the delivery of the diocesan strategy. The role will ensure that the programmes, projects and workstreams within the plan are delivered on time, within scope and budget. The Programme Director will provide oversight of the strategic plan from inception of ideas through implementation to delivery of projects.  Working collaboratively across the Diocese, the role will also ensure that key outcomes are well-defined, appropriately prioritised, delivered to plan and within budget. The role will include shaping and scoping the request for partnership/external funding.

Programme Development & Planning

  • In the first year: To prioritise the clear articulation of a diocesan wide vision and direction of travel through working closely with the Bishop and the Bishop’s Senior Staff Team building on the work achieved in recent years.
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop strategic initiatives aligned with the diocesan vision and strategy
  • Ensure strategic proposals have clarity and viability
  • Ensure effective communication with clarity, consistency and transparency
  • Work with senior leaders to prioritise outline proposals
  • Work with senior leaders to develop change proposals including detailed outcomes and the process by which those outcomes will be achieved
  • Regularly assess the viability of development proposals
  • Work with partnership funding bodies, including the C of E Vision and Strategy Team, to submit funding proposals and assure the quality of applications for any partnership funding
  • Represent the Diocese in discussions with partnership funders
  • Work with senior leaders to make the best use of central resources to support change

Programme Management

  • Facilitate the launch of partnership-funded strategic projects, ensuring they are appropriately planned, resourced, measured and managed.
  • Establish appropriate programme governance, including risk management, change management, regular reporting, and budget management
  • Work with the communications team to ensure consistent and effective messaging
  • Establish review and support processes to ensure projects are delivered successfully
  • Ensure intervention processes are developed to pause, or if necessary, terminate projects that have demonstrated they will not deliver
  • Capture and publish lessons learned, and support research studies
  • Build consistent protocols for all significant strategic development initiatives
  • Track progress against a detailed project plan, deliverables, outcomes and measures
  • Manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs, escalating to BSIG as required
  • Provide support for operational aspects of projects in liaison with diocesan colleagues
  • Ensure project leads/managers regularly complete a quality project highlight report
  • Address project issues and risks, escalating to BSST accordingly
  • Report project status to BSST on a regular basis
  • Oversee production of all necessary annual reports for the Strategic Investment Board

Generous Giving Enabler

Giving is integral to every church. Whether this is time, money, spiritual gifts, practical skills or other resources. Being generous with all that God has given us is Biblical, is a key Spiritual practice and is an essential factor in growing healthy churches. As a diocese we are seeking to promote a culture of generosity to further the good work already happening in our churches.

We are looking for someone who is able to encourage others in the important relationship between generous giving and mission and can help churches across the Diocese to develop and demonstrate a culture of generosity and how to align their resources with the Diocese’s vision and mission of their church.

Some of the main responsibilities of the Generous Giving Enabler are:

The post holder will work closely with the Discipleship and Mission team, Director of Finance, clergy and lay leaders to develop and implement a comprehensive Giving Strategy which

  • encourages confident teaching and preaching on Christian generosity and giving and supports our churches in developing their congregational giving.
  • communicates the positive impact and practical costs of providing mission and ministry across the diocese, and the way in which this is funded through the parish share
  • support parishes in accessing other sources of funding, including charitable funding and legacy giving and by providing access to training and resources.
  • makes effective use of statistical information on parish giving and finance, and trends in diocesan and national giving

What we are looking for in a Generous Giving Enabler:

To fulfil this crucial role, you must have a committed Christian faith and be passionate about helping Christians understand and live out the call to be generous. Public speaking skills and the ability to lead training courses are also essential as is the ability to understand Church finances and familiarity with fundraising and income generation.

Saints Bell Green and Camphill Project Manager - Together for Change

28 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 

£28,719 per annum plus 9% Employer Pension Contributions (£33,120 FTE equivalent).

Location: Contractual Location is Camp Hill, Nuneaton and Bell Green, Coventry and also the Coventry Diocesan Offices on Priory Row

This is a 2 year fixed term post

The Saints Bell Green and Camphill Project Manager will develop coherent strategy for the development of a new Saints Bell Green project and also the Project Management of Camp Hill Church. This will involve considerable networking with all levels of the voluntary and statutory sector, including with Local Authorities, stakeholder groups, churches and charities, alongside providing practical advice and support to other Saints building projects.

The post holder will be responsible for project managing the new Bell Green Saints project and Camp Hill Church in line with the LInCS Fund terms and conditions, while playing a vital role in the Saints Central team with a particular emphasis on buildings and renovation works within TFC.

Fundraiser - Together for Change

21 hours per week (this role can be performed as part of a hybrid or home working arrangement if requested)

£20,349 per annum plus 9% Employer Pension Contributions (£33,916 FTE equivalent).

Location: Coventry Diocesan Offices with travelling across Coventry and Warwickshire as required.

This post is initially for one-year but will be extended as further funding becomes available.

We are looking for someone to assist Together for Change Coventry and Warwickshire (TFC) in transforming the most disadvantaged communities in our Diocese. This will be done in partnership with the Coventry Diocesan Board of Finance (CDBF). The role will involve securing financial resources for TFC, churches and other local community groups to tackle issues of poverty, deprivation and disadvantage. Over the last ten years TFC has grown from one with turnover of just £50k to over £500k, and we are looking to the fundraiser to help sustain our activities and impact at this higher level.

The Coventry Diocesan Board of Finance Ltd (DBF) manages the financial affairs and hold the assets of the Diocese and its associated entities as well as managing activities to serve and equip these parishes through various activities and projects. 

The Finance & Governance team handle all matters concerning Diocesan and Cathedral finance including the administration and collection of parish share, paying invoices and expenses, budgeting, annual statutory, management accounts, clergy stipends, staff salaries, advice to parishes on parochial finance matters. 

This role covers the full range of work in an accounting system dealing with input to and output from all ledgers with specific responsibility for the administration of parish shares and fees including the issuing of regular statements to parishes. The purpose is to ensure that the accounting system has accurate and timely financial data which is available to those who require it either for decision-making or for external reports and accounts.

This role provides excellent administrative support across two departments in the Diocese of Coventry offices:

•  The Ministry & Leadership team provides learning, training and development for volunteer Christian leaders across Coventry and Warwickshire. (The role holder is based in this team, and most of their working time is focussed there.)

•  Website administration. (Half a day each week will be committed to this.)

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Lay Learning & Training Lead to administrate learning and training Programmes across Coventry Diocese.

    • booking, and liaising with, event venues
    • setting up Zoom meetings

Youth Worker - Bedworth Parish

All Saints Church, St Giles Church and St James Church, Bedworth is looking for a full-time youth worker, who is passionate about youth and passionate in faith. We are currently hosting multiple evening youth clubs, working in schools and are working towards starting a youth Alpha course. We have established good relations with multiple local primary schools and secondary schools, working with youth from year 6 and upwards (ages 11-19). You will be working with a team of youth workers supporting youth in the local community, leading (if you wish to explore leadership) or supporting services, and providing safe places for youth to grow and explore their faith.

Working requirements

  • GCSEs in Maths and English, or equivalent.  
  • 37 hours per week for full time, part-time schedule can be discussed with line-manger, most youth clubs are held after school hours. The post-holder must also be available to work on Sundays.
  • Salary Part-time £12.89 per hour. Full-time £28,000 - £30,000 plus an employer pension contribution of 5% for both positions.
  • This employment position will be automatically enrolled into the National Employment Savings Trust pension scheme (3% employer contribution, 5% employee contribution), which can be opted out of upon employment.
  • Annual Leave – 30 days pro-rata, plus bank holidays, including a maximum of 5 Sundays.
