Net Zero resources

In this month’s final Caring for God’s Creation and Net Zero feature, we’re highlighting a few more resources that you can access.

Carbon Confidence in an Hour

More than 50 people have completed the Carbon Confidence in an Hour course.

Launched last autumn, it has been well received. You can register via the equiphub for the next course, 7.30 p.m. 9th September at St Peter’s Church Kineton.  The course runs for 90 minutes.  We present the challenges, the evidence and some of the present-day consequences.  We then share ideas about how to reduce the impact we have on the earth’s precious resources.

Some feedback from participants included:

"It challenged me more than I originally thought on a personal level as well as corporate"

"It showed that the diocese is actively concerned about doing something about climate change"

Heating Systems

Many churches and schools are contending with the prospect of having to replace defective heating systems.  If not straightway, you’re planning for what seems inevitable in the future.  And some of you are looking at the viability of installing Solar PV and batteries to bring down your energy costs further.

These include resources you can download and the grant application processes. Grants of up to £25,000 are available on a match-funded basis (50% grant).

Net Zero Carbon Impact Report

At a national level, the Church of England Environment Programme team has just launched its Net Zero Carbon Impact Report. You can watch an excellent video showcasing the good work of many churches, including one in Coventry Diocese.

Ben Smith from Birmingham Diocese narrates this national resource. The digital report highlights the impact of the Church of England’s Net Zero Programme over the last year.

Zero Interest podcast series

For its new season, Colin recently chatted with Canon Revd Grace Thomas and Revd Charlotte Jackson.  In ‘grace not guilt’ they discussed peoples’ varied responses to the Climate Crisis and the CofE’s commitment to Net Zero emissions.  How can we act in the face of such a vast contemporary issue?  Listen via Spotify.

Volunteers

How can a church volunteer team achieve Net Zero progress?  Who can you turn to?  We can offer diocesan resources and Net Zero grants as a starter.  So please either contact Colin Angus by email (colin.angus@coventry.anglican.org) or visit Coventry’s Net Zero pages here.
