Following Bishop Sophie’s visits to every deanery in the Autumn last year, and since then a time of prayerful reflection as well as many conversations across the diocese, it has become clear that increased connectedness has a vital part to play in our refreshed diocesan vision and strategy.
A key part of this new approach will be moving from our current archidiaconal arrangements to having Archdeacons with a geographic focus. This will happen over the coming months and will help facilitate closer relationships and engagement between our Bishop’s Senior Team, and our clergy, deaneries, parishes, chaplaincies and schools in Coventry and Warwick archdeaconries.
The Rev’d Tim Cockell will continue serving in his current acting archdeacon role for us during our time of transition. Archdeacon Barry has decided that the time has come to move from the diocese in the coming months to new opportunities. Bishop Sophie acknowledges their considerable contributions over recent years which have seen significant levels of change.
This new approach will inevitably mean some practical considerations need to be carefully planned which we want to do well, and all those involved have been part of the conversations.
There will be further announcements and more information in the coming weeks.
