Bishop Sophie is pleased to announce that following a national search and thorough interview process, the Revd Alison Evans has accepted her invitation to serve as the Archdeacon of Coventry. The Revd Canon Richard Hibbert will continue to serve as Acting Archdeacon of Coventry on a part-time basis alongside his ministry as Vicar of Holy Trinity, Coventry until Alison is licensed (date TBC). Please pray for Richard as he continues to serve our Diocese.
Alison is currently Vicar of Holy Trinity, Attleborough and Assistant Area Dean of Nuneaton Deanery. She has served in the diocese for 22 years, having been ordained in Coventry Cathedral in 2004. This appointment comes as part of changes to our archidiaconal structures as we look to offer more effective support to our parishes.
About the role
The Archdeacon of Coventry works closely with clergy, lay leaders and parishes across the Archdeaconry, supporting the mission and ministry of the Church throughout the diocese. The role forms part of the diocesan senior staff team and helps provide strategic leadership, pastoral support and oversight for local churches and communities.
As Archdeacon, Alison will work alongside Archdeacon Tim Cockell and colleagues across the Diocese of Coventry to support parishes, clergy and lay leaders as they continue to share the reconciling love of Christ in their communities.
The archdeaconry of Coventry includes the deaneries of; Nuneaton, Coventry North, Coventry Souh, Coventry East, Kenilworth and Rugby.
Speaking about her appointment, Alison said:
“Having had so much experience here in Coventry and the surrounding area, I am very aware of the joys and challenges that clergy and churches experience as they seek to make Jesus known and serve their communities. There is a rich diversity here, and many gifts among both lay and ordained people, and I look forward to playing a part in seeing the renewed vision implemented and bringing hope and encouragement.
I am looking forward to getting to know the parishes and people of the Archdeaconry more fully in the coming months.”
