Thought for the Day

Thank you to the 165 people who completed the short survey about the Thought for the Day.

The survey showed that a daily article was especially helpful to people during lockdown.  However, during the next few months, a weekly article might be more appropriate.  This option was the most popular choice (54%), and it was also supported by the written comments.

A Thought for the Week will be published on Monday.

The results of the survey can be found here.

National guidance from the Church of England

The Church of England website has a dedicated page for the latest national requirements and guidance.

This morning the following message was added to the Church of England website:

"The Government has announced that new regulations relating to the ‘rule of six’ are being prepared.

Those regulation will not come into effect until Monday September 14 2020.  Until then all of the current advice continues to apply as before.

The Church of England is engaging with the Government and will provide new advice to churches but we do not expect to be in a position to provide that until the week beginning September 14."

Our expectation is that the 'rule of six' will not apply to public worship in church buildings, and therefore the current advice for public worship and private prayer will remain unchanged.

As with previous changes, it can take several days for an announcement from the Prime Minister ito be translated into detailed Govemenment requirements/advice.  Once this has been done, the Church of England will update its own guidance as quickly as possible.

The Government has updated two of its documents:

However, we still wait to see how the Church of England will interpret this.
