Our Net Zero Carbon Project Officer, Colin Angus, recently recorded another episode of the Zero Interest podcast. Entitled "For the Love of Nature", the episode is a conversation with Mary Creagh CBE, MP for Coventry East and Minister for Nature, and Alison Wilkes who project manages our Churchyard Biodiversity and Heritage Project.
Zero Interest was launched two years ago and focuses on our pledge to achieve net zero carbon by 2030.
In this latest episode beavers were discussed. Beavers are a keystone species whose dam building exploits dramatically and positively alter water courses and wetlands. Mary said "We've licensed the release of Wild Beavers [in the UK] for the first time since their extinction 400 years ago now." She has personally released "two sets of Beavers, … in Purbeck, which was great, and the other down in Somerset, on the border of Exmoor National Park." The trio also talked about planting new national forests, promoting sustainable agriculture, the unique ecosystems found in churchyards and the great work of the Churchyard Biodiversity and Heritage Project with local communities across the diocese.
