HOPE 2008 LAUNCH / COVENTRY PRAISE
Coventry Churches are uniting together for an evening of celebration, praise and worship and the launch of HOPE 2008, with guest speaker Steve Chalke. To be held at the Cathedral on Saturday 8 September at 7.30 pm; admission is free and everyone is welcome.
MARRIAGE PREPARATION COURSE
Following the hugely successful Marriage Preparation Course held earlier this year, Coventry Cathedral is pleased to announce that another Course is planned for the Autumn.
The Course is based on excellent material produced by Holy Trinity, Brompton - the home of the Alpha Course - and is run by Bob & Seringa Dudley. Running for 7 weeks, the Course is designed to help any engaged couple wanting to develop strong foundations for a lasting marriage. With a simple meal, short talks, and the opportunity for private discussion as couples, the evenings will be relaxed and unthreatening. Whilst based on Christian principles, it will be very helpful and suitable for any couple with or without a Christian faith or background.
Next Course dates: 2 / 9 / 16 & 30 October, 6 / 13 & 20 November (all Tuesday evenings from 7.00 - 9.45 pm at Holy Trinity Church Centre, Coventry (the old Blue Coats School). A meal is provided during the evening.

Faith and Fury Responding to Resurgent Religion
A series of talks are being given by Canon Christopher Lamb at St Peter’s Church Centre (Carr Room) Wellesbourne on Tuesday evenings on 11th September titled ‘Christianity and the other Faiths’: Is it enough to be religious? September 18th titled ‘The Bible and the Qur’an’: understanding where Muslims come from? and 25th September titled ‘Fundamentalism’ in Jewish, Christian and Muslim dress, all starting at 7.30pm. Following Christopher’s talks, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion. All are welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.
Scarecrow Weekend
Barford are holding a Scarecrow weekend over the Bank holiday 25th –27th August commencing from the Church any time after 11.00am. The route is suitable for all ages, plus prams and wheelchairs and children’s bikes. There will be a ‘Spot the lost Sheep’ competition for children. Car parking will be available on the playing fields. Tea/coffee and cakes may be obtained in the Church and barbecue lunches in the Scout Hut.
It promises to be a great weekend so bring all your friends and family.
Godly Play
Anyone interested who would like to the Godly Play, a three day teacher accredited course. There are still some spaces on this residential course at Offa House to be held from 11th to 13th December 2007 run by Revd Peter Privett and Lizzie McWhirter. George Eliot: Scenes Revisited
To celebrate the 150 anniversary of ‘Scenes of Clerical Life’. The churches of both Astley and All Saints Chilvers Coton will be holding a George Eliot Themed Flower Festival and Historical Display.
The All Saints Chilvers Coton festival will be from Thursday 6th from 12.00 – 6.00pm Saturday 10.00am to 4.00pm and Sunday 9th from 10.0am to 7.30pm Refreshments will be available. Contact the Parish Office for further details 024 7638 3010 Donations welcome.
The Astley one is from Friday 7th September from 11.00am to 3.00pm Saturday 8th from 10.00am to 4.00pm and Sunday 9th September from 11.00am to 2.00pm at St Mary the Virgin, Astley Parish Church.
Share the Light this Advent
This Advent CMS are inviting people in churches to ‘Share the Light’. This can be achieved in three easy yet powerful steps: You give a candle to a friend, you promise to pray for them for a year, and finally you invite them to a special Advent Service.

Directory Amendments
The Reverend David Addley, Priest in Charge of Aston Cantlow and Wilmcote with Billesley has died after suffering a stroke. His funeral was held at Aston Cantlow on Friday 17th August. Our prayers are with his wife Elizabeth and other members of David’s family as well as his friends and parishioners. May God surround them all with his love at this very sad time.
Mrs Carolyn Thorpe, PCC Secretary of Charlecote, has died. It appears she was hit by a tree. Our prayers are with her husband and family and friends and parishioners of Charlecote. May God surround them all with his love and peace at this very sad time.
