Into The Bible
Scripture Union have produced a new recourse; ‘Into the Bible:101 routes to explore’ with the aim that
children will read and enjoy the Bible. Scripture Union need churches and schools to get on board. There
are classroom packs which include books with 101 key Bible extracts. There is also a teachers’CD ROM
with 24 lesson outlines and resource material targeted at Key Stage 2(7-11 year olds).

The Marriage Course
The Marriage Course which was advertised in last months Surge Newsletter was incorrect. The Marriage
Course is a marriage enrichment course for those who are already married not a preparation course
for engaged couples. The covering information should have read as follows:
The Marriage Course - Enriching an already good marriage!
Following a very successful Marriage Preparation Course held earlier this year, Coventry Cathedral is
pleased to announce that the hugely popular 'Marriage Course' - a marriage enrichment course - is now
planned for the Autumn. The course is based on excellent material produced by Holy Trinity Brompton - the
home of the Alpha Course - and will likewise be run by Bob and Seringa Dudley and team.
'The Marriage Course' is for any married couple who want to build a strong and lasting relationship, whether
it be to make their already good marriage even better, or to address new issues and challenges being faced.
Relaxed and unthreatening it is suitable for those with or without a Christian faith and is renowned for being
very welcoming. Covering 7 evenings each intimate and rewarding evening comprises a meal, a talk and the
opportunity to privately discuss the topic together as a couple.
Starting 2nd October at Holy Trinity Church, this is an opportunity not to be missed. Do take a look at the

The World Mental Health Day Project
World Mental Health Day is on 10th October and since 1994 has had a theme. The theme of this year’s day
is 2007; Mental Health in a Changing World. The impact of culture and Diversity’. Further information on
the day can be found at www.wfmh.org On this day please remember in your prayers those affected by
mental health issues and pray especially those locally, which seek to meet their needs.

Calling all Women
Do you long to live more simply? Would you welcome the chance to learn to sit, relax and be more alert
than ever before?
‘Towards being Still’ is a series of Lunchtime Meditations that allow women permission to pause and
experience peace by learning simple exercises that still the mind and open the heart.
The workshops are bi-monthly, the next one being on Tuesday 2nd October followed by the last one for 2007
on Wednesday 5th December 2007 from 1.00pm –2.00pm in Coventry Cathedral Undercroft (in the lecture
hall).
Coffee and tea provided. Bring your own lunch and enjoy eating together from 12.45pm Admission free but
donations towards expenses are gratefully received.

Palestinian Christian and Other International Crafts
‘Merian Derwent’ run by John Logan, former Christian Aid Area Co-ordinator in the NW, imports a range of
Palestinian crafts from the West Bank. They include olivewood carving particularly from the Christian
community around Bethlehem, needlework, ceramics, and Hebron glass. A number of parishes order gifts
for confirmation candidates. He also has crafts from two Christian Aid supported groups in South Africa and
Jamaica, which are particularly appropriate for World Aids Day (1st December). He also runs both a mail
order system and does Sale or Return Boxes for events. A website should be open very soon.

All I Want For Christmas Is….
Harvest Help, a charity working with poor rural communities in rural Africa, has launched its Christmas
Gifts of Self Reliance catalogue, offering communities the chance of changed lives for Christmas.
The catalogue, which can be ordered by calling 01952 260699 or download at www.harvesthelp.org offers a
range of alternative gifts, where the gift itself goes to a family in Africa and the recipient here receives a
personalised card and explanation of how the present will be used to transform communities.
Gifts, chosen by the communities that will benefit, include chickens, trees and stoves and Harvest Help
promises to use the money for the gift specified, rather than putting it into a general pot.
In addition the catalogue contains a range of exclusive textiles, cards and Christmas cards. Churches looking

Afternoon Talks/Seminars
On Saturday 13th October 2007 there is an afternoon talks/seminars to be held at Lime Tree Park Methodist
Church, Elm Tree Avenue, Coventry starting at 2.30pm and finishing at 5.30pm with Bring and Share Tea
followed by worship. Each talk will last for forty-five minutes.
Family Fun Day
The Coventry Diocese Mothers’ Union are running a Fun Day with the theme ‘At Home and Overseas. It
will be held on Saturday 6th October at Kenilworth Upper School, Leyes Lane, Kenilworth from 11.00am
until 3.30pm. Admission is £1.00, accompanied children free! Download more information and posters on

There will be activities for all ages, including stalls, games, craft workshops and Fair Trade and Ethically
produced goods from around the world. There is also a Miniature garden competition for children up to

Every year we remember those who have have died as a result of war. But the way we remember often fails
to engage with the need to work for peace, reconciliation and alternatives to war and we need to re-think of

An organ is available free of charge from a home in Cosby, Leicestershire from where it would need to be
collected. It is an electronic wooden model Solina F217 made in Holland, with several levels of keys and
approximately the same size as a piano, but lighter, being 46” wide 27” depth and 42” height. If anyone is
