Parish Share
As you are aware, the cut-off date for 2009 parish share receipts was 31 January 2010. The final figure is now in and I am very pleased to be able to let you know that the collection rate for 2009 was 99.1% of the share allocated (98.6% in 2008). In cash terms, the figure received was £57,000 more than in 2008. Detailed statements are being sent out today to Rural and Area Deans, Lay Chairs, and Deanery Treasurers, together with detailed statements for each parish. On behalf of the Diocesan Board of Finance, may I express my profound gratitude for the sacrificial giving which has resulted in this figure.

Consultation on Parish Share
Graeme Pringle of the Parish Share Consultation Group writes:
Dear Colleagues,
Some of you will know that I am a member of the Parish Share Consultation Group. We have been giving careful consideration to the feedback received during the deanery consultations last year. The issues raised are now being addressed in a series of discussion papers, prior to a full debate by Diocesan Synod later this year.
The discussion papers will include:
- Discussion Paper 1 – Calculating the ‘Cost of Ministers’
- Discussion Paper 2 – Sharing the ‘Cost of Ministers’
- Discussion Paper 3 – Vacancies, Glebe and Henry VIII
- Discussion Paper 4 – Parochial Fees
...and others are being considered.
I have attached Discussion Paper 2, because it has been written in response to the feedback received from clergy in several deaneries. It proposes a revised method for sharing the ‘Cost of Ministers’ between deaneries. [Discussion Paper 2 can be downloaded from the Parish Share website, address below.]
The PSCG would be pleased to receive any comments that you might have about this discussion paper. It would be particularly helpful if you could submit these comments via the website at www.parishshare.info This website is very easy to use, and once you’ve logged in you can read the comments from other people. (If you’ve not yet requested a password, or you’ve forgotten it, please use the links on the left-hand menu.) Any other members of your church are also welcome to request their own password, and to submit their comments.
I’m aware that many people receive too many emails. I don’t want to burden you with emails that you don’t want to read, and notification of subsequent discussion papers will only be emailed to people who have requested a password at the parish share website.
With best wishes,
Graeme Pringle
Vicar of St Christopher’s Church, Coventry South
