Reader Training
Initial Training
Elizabeth Dyke
Reader training operates under the Director of Initial Training; Revd Elizabeth Dyke. The course is an intensive one that takes two years and is delivered in modules. The subjects covered are: Biblical Studies (Old and New Testament studies), Mission, Preaching, Doctrine (Creeds), Ethics, Kingdom, Prayer, worship and Spirituality. Students also undertake one placement. The modules are delivered by the Module Tutor, and a Group Tutor supports the students by attending the sessions and helping as and when necessary. The Group Tutor, who is also a Reader, provides on-going pastoral care in conjunction with the Module Tutor and Director of Initial Training.
Continuing Training
Reader Continuing Ministerial Education, or CME as it is better known, is arranged by the Director of Continuing Ministry; Revd. Dr. Richard Cooke. Courses vary in length from all day to evening sessions and are normally open to Readers and Clergy alike. The courses can be academic and challenging and also practical and helpful to all in ministry. Readers can choose to take the diocesan Funeral course that enables them to receive the Bishop’s permission to take funerals. Normally this is open to Readers following their first year of ministry.
