Requirements for Reader Ministry

There are nationally agreed criteria for selection for all ordained and accredited ministers. The areas covered are: vocation, ministry within the Church of England, spirituality, personality and character, relationships, leadership and collaboration, faith, mission and evangelism and quality of mind.  Candidates must be baptised and confirmed members of the Church and regularly worshipping in a local setting.  It is expected that they will have had some experience of leadership in their parish church and their Incumbent or Priest in Charge will be asked to explain how any potential Reader will be used in his or her parish.  Anyone who feels called to Reader ministry will first speak with a Vocations Adviser who will then pass their enquiry on to the Warden of Readers.  The Warden will interview them at home and, if all parties are in agreement, call them to a Selection Conference.
