It is natural to think of ministry only in terms of the ordained and, perhaps of Readers. And these may sound rather daunting, appropriate for other people but not for me. But there are more ministries that may be exercised locally where they can be tested and it is usually as a result of being encouraged to exercise some limited ministry that a person comes to realise in time whether or not they are being called to authorised lay or ordained ministry. The pattern is often that a person is encouraged to see whether they have a particular gift. If they do, that may become their ministry. And a ministry may in time lead to one of the offices in the church.
