Residents of Arley lined the street to welcome the Archbishop on the next stop on his visit to the diocese. Archbishop Rowan chatted for ten minutes in the sun with many of them, before attending lunch with young leaders in St Michael's Community Centre, Arley. |

In brief opening remarks to the young leaders from churches in poorer areas across the diocese, the Archbishop stressed the importance of the work that they are doing "on the ground" and assured them of the continuing commitment of the National Church to support that work. "You help show people that they don't have to live in the boxes they think they do. My job is to make sure you have the resources to carry on doing that job," he said.
Archbishop Rowan asked the leaders over lunch to tell him "how it was" in the communities they serve, so that he can take that message back to those who hold the purse strings for the National Church.
The Revd Peter Allan, who invited Archbishop Rowan to Arley said, "This is the first time ever that any Archbishop has ever visited Arley. We're really proud that he felt it was important enough to come." |
