Spark in the Park

Spark in the Park is a summer park mission in Coventry's Memorial Park 28th July - 1st Aug. It is designed to reach 5-11 year olds and their families. It involves activities such as face painting, football, craft, inflatables, cricket, parachute games, chill out zone, competitions, spiritual slots including bible stories, quizzes, songs etc. It may also include youth activities in the evenings.
This event is aimed at involving churches from right across the city as a citywide Hope 08 event. About 100 volunteers will be needed and many churches are already getting involved. Sarah who is heading up this project is on the lookout for churches who are willing to buy into this project - they need to raise £10,000 to make it happen. Please speak to Sarah if you can help in anyway. You can contact Sarah Harrison at sarah@qrbc.co.uk <mailto:sarah@qrbc.co.uk> or 07961883372.

The Passion on TV

This Easter, the BBC will be broadcasting a dramatisation of the passion narrative into millions of homes across the UK.

The story of Jesus will be shown in peak time, half hour programmes - through Holy Week. The programmes will present the Biblical narratives of events such as the Resurrection and appearances on Easter Day.

The BBC have not put this together as an evangelism tool - they‘ve done it because they think it will be good television. Churches Media Council have come up with a really helpful suggested response for Christians, and we’re pretty excited about the opportunities for evangelism that this offers! Glimpses: Youth Work and Spirituality

Glimpses - Youth Work and Spirituality: resources and ideas to aid exploration and reflection is designed to be an accessible pack to help explore what the concept of spirituality means in modern life and how it can be applied to modern day youth work.
Written by Steve Bullock, Church of England Diocesan youth officer in Gloucester, and Nigel Pimlott of the Frontier Youth Trust, the five sections in Glimpses will encourage readers to reflect on spirituality and stimulate thought and discussion and promote greater awareness.
The Reflections section provides a series of visual images to engage with and reflect upon; Atmospheres explores the power and importance of environments and Essences tries to get to the heart of what is meant by spirituality and spiritual development. Stations provides a range of some 30 practical tools to aid exploration and engagement and Breaths is packed full of miscellaneous ideas and resources. The pack also contains a DVD which complements the activities and includes photos, music and video clips.
Glimpses is available from Publications Sales at The National Youth Agency, price £15 plus £2 postage and packing. E-mail sales@nya.org.uk <mailto:sales@nya.org.uk> or telephone 0116 242 7427.
The Frontier Youth Trust can provide youth workers and organisations with training to help them obtain the most from Glimpses. For more information e-mail frontier@fyt.org.uk or telephone 0121 687 3505.

What does the Diocesan Youth Officer do?

Just to keep you in touch my activities this week include helping Amy from Bablake School to set up a Fair Trade Breakfast Club in the school, a Trip to North Wales with the youth team at St Andrew's YPF, Rugby. The relaunching of the Diocesan Children's team (watch this space!) and co-leading Christ in the Precinct (Easter Mission week) in Coventry.

Have a great week.
