Christian Understanding of Stewardship
Christian stewardship starts with God and his generosity to us. What we give can only be a token recognition of what He has first done for us.
Any work that does not recognise this is just secular fundraising.
Our possessions and wealth are not our own, they are entrusted to us for safe-keeping and responsible use. We are answerable to God for their use and the impact on future generations.
Biblical Principles
"All things come from you and of your own do we give you" (1 Chronicles 29.14)
"The Earth is the Lord's and all that is in it" (Psalm 24.1)
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich" (II Corinthians 8.9)
"Freely you have received, freely give." (Matthew 10.8)
